Extra Fine Humanistic & Variations

With Massimo Polello

Starting date: 13 November 2026

Fees: HK$ 1,000 or US$ 130

Workshop Description

If you thought you had discovered everything about this wonderful style of writing from the Italian Renaissance, well, that's not the case.

Our journey begins in 1402, when the humanist Poggio Bracciolini created the Roman Minuscule, also known as Littera Antiqua or Humanistic Script.

We will quickly explore the basics and historical forms of this incredibly elegant, timeless, and modern style, drawing inspiration from the original manuscripts of an exceptional Master, Francesco Periccioli.

We will focus on the quality of the stroke, refining it to make it extremely thin to fully appreciate the elegance of these letters. Once familiar with the forms, the desire to "play" with them will surely arise, having fun with patterns and compositions on pictorial backgrounds and enhancing their expressive and graphic qualities.

Through a fun deconstruction method, completely ignoring the legibility of these letters, we will reach the abstract. This strong graphic-expressive impact will once again allow us to marvel at our creations!
