Jurgen will try to explain and get across the character and dynamic of the letters of Jan Rossey. He has a very playful and spontaneous way of drawing letters. Jurgen himself finds a lot of inspiration in his letters, his life, and philosophy. His playful and joyful character shines through his letters, and in a way, they are impossible to copy. Yet, we can learn how to look at our own calligraphy and letters through his eyes and try to ‘improve’ and vitalize our lettering.

Jurgen will go through the drawing of his letters with a mechanical pencil (not a big surprise, I hope), and proceed to letter drawing with fineliners, fountain pen, broad-edge pen, and hemispherical pens, and end with a design where we will paint the counterspace with watercolor (pointed brush).

The little book he made years ago is out of print and hence no longer available, but there is a small and a big PDF, which is included for the occasion in this workshop, Thanks to Jan Rossey’s approval.
