Workshop Description
Calligraphy has long been paired with paintings, ornamental scroll work, and other pictorial objects to enhance a piece's visual impact. In this class, we will explore the relationship between ovals and curvatures, and learn how to use them strategically to create Chinese dragons and phoenixes with cartouches and scroll work. While this may seem intimidating at first, with practice you will be able to execute graceful scroll work and flourishing with ease. Moreover, the techniques covered in this class will also be applicable to your daily calligraphy practice and will help you develop your own creative flourish animals and objects In this class you will learn: • Specific movement exercises for body awareness to achieve curvatures in confidence. • Principles of creating harmony with curvatures • Troubleshooting in common difficulties and errors. • Techniques on a lighter hand • Tools and materials for pictorial flourishing, with instruction on effective use
