Workshop Description
Session One - Still Spinning Gold In this session, Heather will demo her method for making shell gold and look at illusionistic background techniques for metallic gold as well as alternate metals like palladium, platinum, and copper. These alternate metallic techniques can enhance student's current gilding skills as well as add different colours of metal leaf throughout the design. Session Two - Intriguing Initials Gather insights from some of the intricate techniques used in Sangorski letter designs. These inlay techniques can add another layer to the Lombardic letter forms and help student to create beautifully inspiring initials. The demo session will focus on the painting techniques for these letters. Heather will use watercolor for the demo along with white gouache, a fine detail brush, and the pointed pen. Session Three - Borders and Beyond William Morris will be our main guide into the border designs explored in this class. But we will also be looking at filigree infill designs to help augment the borders and create a sense of balance on illuminated pages. Heather will use water color for the demo portion of the class along with white gouache. After the three demo sessions, the students will be encouraged to create finished piece that explores any of the demo techniques from the enrichment sessions. We will meet in session four for feedback. Sufficient time will be given after session three to complete your final piece. Session Four - Wrap up session Critique Students will be encouraged to either create an intricate initial, beautiful border or an illuminated page as their final project
