Workshop Description
The focus of this class is on the beautiful pattern on the doors of the Palace of Comares, built by Mohammad V in 1370 to commemorate the conquest of Algeciras. It was also used as a backdrop for the sultan to preside over ceremonial acts, seated between the two doors. The wooden doors are protected by metal plates with geometric pattern decorated with round-headed studs. The class will start with a quick introduction about drafting tools and how to use them. Our pattern construction will start by creating a grid with pairs of concentric circles on it. After obtaining our pattern, we will follow steps to create a width of the ribbon and eventually interlacing it to create our pattern. Different techniques of expanding the pattern will also be shared.
