Workshop Description
Over 100 years ago, students learned Business Penmanship for academic and business purposes. The hallmarks of the script are its legibility, graceful curves, and unparalleled line quality. The source of its beauty and utility lie in the traditional "muscular movement" technique used to write the script, which will be the focus of this workshop. This 2-day workshop provides the fundamentals for learning to write Business Penmanship with muscular movement. During the workshop, you will begin developing muscular movement with classic exercises while seeing live demonstrations and receiving real-time feedback. Each student will receive free access to The Palmer Method Study Plan, a comprehensive video course on Business Penmanship created by the author (49 USD value). Lesson 1 Learn how arm movement works including grip and position Begin developing arm movement with classic exercises Drills will be provided to work on between lessons Lesson 2 Continue to develop arm movement with drills Learn how drills transition into the movements that create letterforms Guidance on continued self-study will be provided IMPORTANT NOTE #1: Business Penmanship was traditionally written with a pointed pen, but we will use a ballpoint pen, specifically an inexpensive one like a Bic RoundStic. Higher quality writing tools like fountain pens, gel pens, rollerball pens, and ballpoint pens with hybrid inks are too slippery for learning arm movement. IMPORTANT NOTE #2: Wear short sleeves or long sleeves that are loose and unrestrictive. Have a large desk surface to write on, ideally at least 2.5' wide and 2' deep.
