Let your skills soar! This advanced study program is designed for those who want to enrich

their skills in offhand flourishing, gilding, painting, and designing decorative elements. Each of

our projects will be infused with a fanciful spirit as we explore techniques together. Homework

is required for this course. Instruction will be given for each session, but the student is

encouraged to do their own research and create unique projects to expand their design skills.

My hope is that each student will see a dramatic level of growth in their skills and gain

confidence for more involved projects. I am excited to share this journey with you as we all

grow together.

Lesson 01 - Refined Flourishing: Our first session will concentrate on taking your flourishing skills to a

new level. We will refine our strokes as we work on an illustrative or constrained space

flourish.

Lesson 02 - Watercolour Techniques with coloured pencil, gouache. This is a skill building session where

we will explore the advantages of combining watercolour with other mediums.

Lesson 03 - Gilding and Ornament: This session will cover the principals of ornamental design using

florals and acanthus for borders or illuminated vines.

​

Lesson 04 - Inhabited Initials: This session will cover an inhabited letter design. An inhabited initial

includes either a floral or animal element. Gilding and dry brush watercolour techniques will be

explored in this class.

Lesson 05 - Text with imagery: This session begins to put all our study techniques together. We will work

with a few lines of text and add the ornamental design to grace the words.

​

Lesson 06 - The Illuminated Page: Expanding our previous session, the student will create a full

illuminated page that illustrates their chosen text.
