In this workshop, we will learn to write an authentic medieval hand (gothic textualis). We will examine the details and characteristics that define this ancient text, and will learn how to incorporate them in our own unique pieces of calligraphy. We will delve into some fascinating aspects and history of this significant style. After learning to write the textualis alphabet, we will learn about simple Gothic/Lombardic capitals, and how they are incorporated with the textualis hand. Lastly, we will learn how to write our own little medieval-style "piece", which will incorporate a simple Gothic Versal letter.
