Workshop Description
Franco-saxon style is a mix from the French manuscripts and the Saxon (or Insular) ones. The best of two different worlds, put together in the ninth century in France, where illuminators integrated insular decoration patterns.
In this workshop, student will focus on illuminated and decorated initials from the second Bible of Charles the Bold, created during the 4th quarter of the ninth century in the North of France and now kept at the French National Library.

Lesson 1 : Study of the arrowed basic initials and the associated decoration

Lesson 3 : Study of historical large initials and animal heads

Lesson 4 : Franco-saxon style in the 21st century
