Step into the world of floral roundels, a timeless design practice inspired by ornamentation found across Central, South, and West Asian artistic traditions.

 

In this online workshop, you’ll learn how rotational symmetry and circular geometry forms the beating heart of these exquisite compositions.

 

Using easy-to-follow compass and ruler construction, you’ll create your own individual floral motifs and then progress to work on a larger, more complex roundel design. Composing with graceful curves and flowing lines, you’ll gain hands-on experience in how to structure and arrange motifs to build elegant roundel patterns that that feel both intricate and harmonious, echoing the rhythms of historical encaustic tiles, ceramics, metalware and illuminations.

 

By the end of our two lessons, you’ll not only master the technical steps behind constructing rotationally symmetrical designs but also gain the confidence to bring timeless beauty into your own creative practice.

 

Skill level: Beginner, no previous experience is required.
