Engrosser's Script Academy - Introduction to Basics (Part 1)

With Belinda Chim

Starting date: 6 August 2026

Fees: HK$ 390 or US$ 50

Workshop Description

A single stroke can carry both discipline and grace in Engrosser’s Script. Mastering it does take years of dedicated practice, but the right foundation makes all the difference. This 4-part series is designed to give you exactly that: a structured, supportive space to build your skills with clarity and intention.

Whether you're a complete beginner feeling overwhelmed by where to start, or a self-taught practitioner looking to refine your technique, you'll gain not just letterforms, but the critical thinking and self-diagnosing skills needed to continue honing your craft long after the class ends.

Introduction to the Basics (Part 1)

The focus of this single session is to lay a solid groundwork. We will introduce the tools of the trade—the nib, holder, ink, and paper—and learn how to prepare them for use. Through a series of foundational work (warmups and drills), basic strokes, and principal shade, we will begin to understand the rhythm, pressure control, and hairlines that are the very essence of the script. This class is about building the groundwork for forming our minuscules (Part 2).

This workshop is suitable for:

  • Complete beginner who feels overwhelmed by where to start.

  • Self-taught practitioners who struggle with shaky lines, inconsistent slant, or ink blobs.

  • Anyone who values live feedback to correct bad habits before they become permanent

Student will also learn:

  • Troubleshooting in common difficulties and errors.

  • Exercises to strengthen whole arm movement .

  • Techniques on a lighter, more controlled hand.

  • Tip, tricks and tool recommendations

  • How to critique your work and to refine it
