With Pat Blair

Starting date: 4 April 2026

Fees: HK$ 7,800 or US$ 1,000

Workshop Description

A unique opportunity to study with a Master Penman and former Chief Calligrapher at the White House in Washington, D.C!

This workshop will offer a complete study of the copperplate hand, with focus on the detail that makes it truly elegant. We will explore every nuance of the letters, the shapes, the curves, the slant, size, thin and thick strokes, spacing, all the details of form that will elevate letters into art. Starting with an explanation of tools, inks, papers, then moving on to the basics of the forms of lower and upper case, before moving to more flourished forms. Capitals will get special attention, they are the jewels of the hand and we will learn how to make them truly beautiful.

This intensive study will take place over 12 sessions, but what makes it truly unique is the opportunity for personalized feedback. There will be 6 classes of instruction and 6 dedicated sessions on review each students work and answer questions. Because of this feature, the class size is limited.
