Workshop Description

The flat brush is one of the most versatile tools for a calligrapher, offering unique characteristics and flexibility that a broad edged nib cannot. In this class, Sachin Shah guides us through leveraging and mastering this tool for a variety of scripts.

  • Understand the behavior of a flat brush including techniques to hold and maneuver

  • Exercises to strengthen the foundational strokes used in many letterforms

  • Detailed analysis of angle, pressure, and line weight created by the flat brush

  • An exploration of Fraktur Capitals using the flat brush

  • Composition of Layering and brush strokes Calligram
